The proposed works seek to extend the property to the rear and in the roof to create a larger family home with open plan kitchen /diner living for a modern family.
The original house was a 1930’s family home which was extended in 1988 with a ground floor and first floor conversion and over the existing side garage. Internally this has led to the house having uneven internal first floor levels with the extended part of the house appx 300mm lower than the rest of the first floor plate. The site itself is tapered front to back due to the house being extended up to the boundary of an adjacent byway.
These works will add a beautiful and much needed family area to the rear of the house. The double storey rear opens up the original house in line with existing scale and mass. The new works to the first floor replaces the existing substandard extension and creates a larger family bathroom, guest room and level floor structure. The proposal breathes new life into the existing structure modernising it not only aesthetically but also in terms of the flow of its internal spaces, natural light and modern, energy efficient building materials and processes.
